Say<\/strong> \u2013 We mainly use <strong>say<\/strong> when the focus is on <strong>what someone says<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>She said that she was tired.<br \/>\nHe said, \u201cSee you tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If we mention the person we are speaking to, we normally use <strong>say something to someone<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>She said hello to me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Tell<\/strong> \u2013 We usually use <strong>tell<\/strong> when we mention <strong>the person who receives the information<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>She told me the truth.<br \/>\nCan you tell us what happened?<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, we say:<\/p>\n<p>She said that she was tired.<\/p>\n<p>Not:<\/p>\n<p>She told that she was tired.<\/p>\n<p>But we can say:<\/p>\n<p>She told me that she was tired.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Speak<\/strong> \u2013 We often use <strong>speak<\/strong> when talking about languages or in more formal situations.<\/p>\n<p>Do you speak English?<br \/>\nI need to speak to the manager.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.
